British Section Claims for the Suspension of Through Services, Hire and Demurrage of British Section. Stock, etc.

I have the honour to attach herewith for your

information, copies of the accounts being kept by this Section of losses sustained in connection with the above up to the dates shown on the various accounts :-

Suspension of Through Trains.

Hire of Rolling Stock.

Demurrage.

These accounts have been carefully compiled

according to the terms of the Working Agreement, for the period stated thereon, and will when completed form the basis of this Section's claims against the Chinese Government and your Section for the periods under review.

I am forwarding them to you at this present stage incomplete as they are, to give you an opportunity to check them before they accumulate any further.

The Governor of Hong Kong fully recognises the difficulties which the Chinese Section is encountering at present and has no intention of pressing for immediate payment. I am sending you these figures in order that

you may know the nature of the claims will be made when the situation becomes normal again.
